They simply do not work very well By cek I have owned a pair of the Peltor 7S headset since the early 1990s and those continue to work extremely well for me. I purchased the 6S thinking I would like the behind the head design & slightly slimmer profile and that I would let my son use the 7Ss.
After a full morning at the range I am returning these and just buying anohter set of 7s.
They do a very poor job of noise suppression. My ears were still uncomfortable with these on regardless of how I had the volume controls set.
They do not work AT ALL with a rifle (at least an AR15 style rifle). The behind-the-ear band prevented me from getting a sight picture through the scope because it pushed against the buttstock of the rifle.
They are inconvenient to pack because they do not fold up.
Wished I would have read the reviewes before purchasing. Glad Amazon is great with returns.

Peltor tactical, is it really tactical By Nate707 I’m a competition shooter and as such need to be able to understand range commands while also protecting my hearing. I intended this to be my main use for this item. There are some pro’s and con’s to this system. One such pro is its compact size, reduced at the top of the ear piece for use under a helmet if needed. One con that come to mind is the low amount of insulation inside the ear cup. There is this little flimsy piece of foam that can be replaced with thicker pads from, in my case another set of ear pro. While it is a great system, the compact version does not have the higher sound amplifying capability as the larger round type of the same brand. As another pro I must mention the low weight. You can have these on for hours and only realize it if your sweating hard. One con to this “behind the head” type is that is will be pushed off your ears in the prone position, which sucks. If used in a constant wearing situation such as combat or training its also going to limit your ability to look up for the same reason. This can be fixed by just wearing these upside down, sounds silly but is the only option in these situations. The on/off knobs are easily bumped and turned on inside a ruck sack or whatever and you will find them on when you thought they were off. Not sure what model has gel inserts in the pad portion of the cups but it’s not this one and it sure would be nice to have for extended use. All that said and I would buy this item again. Its ability to amplify low level sounds is impressive. I still wish they amplify voices better, just cause its louder doesn’t mean its always clear. Maybe volume control would help as it seems to also amplify white noise of wind, water, breathing ect. All in all best brand on the market and well worth the $65

Disappointing By W. Tanner I bought these hearing protectors to use at the local gun range. They work moderately well, but I find the noise reduction not quite adequate for range use. These don’t have enough padding to block out enough sound of even a 9mm, let alone the guy next door shooting a 500 magnum. They work fine for outdoor shooting.
They also don’t fit on my wife or adult daughter, both of whom have narrow faces. They only seem to stay on my big head (in more ways than one). Women or men with shorter or narrower jaws need to look at the over the head hearing protectors.
On the plus side, the electronics do allow me to keep a normal conversation while shooting at the range, and their price is far below the pro version electronic hearing protectors.
