Automotive auctions have become extremely popular nowadays for the vehicle buying enthusiast. The auctions present a terrific opportunity for the average person to be capable of finding an excellent vehicle at a good price. Automotive auctions have become popular for used car dealerships as they can quickly change out inventory of vehicles. This allows them to have high sales, and maintain existing consumer loyalty with new inventory. Many dealers place inventory in automotive auctions as a quick way to connect with new clients and develop long term business relationships.

So where do You Find These Dynamite Deals?

Automotive auctions are easy to locate by buying your local newspaper, or auto-trader. By looking though your local newspaper or automotive trader in your community will have listings for different auctions close to your location. A fair number of these auctions are for car dealerships that have overstock inventory and want to move inventory quickly. Usually uncommonly impressive deals can be found by being patient and inspecting the vehicle before you place your bid. By being prepared, and knowing which vehicle catches your eye you have the advantage over your competitors, and you can bid aggressively. So, next time you are reading your paper look for the next auction in your neighborhood. Chances are you will have a couple new auctions coming up next weekend.

An excellent method, and extremely helpful tool for locating regional automotive auctions is the Internet. By typing in your city, and specific keyword related phrases into the search engines, you will be able to find all the local auctions happening near your location. Also, you may have the option of participating in online auctions where you would not have to leave your home. These are gaining in popularity online, and are a great alternative when it comes to saving money.

Automotive Stocks? Be Careful!

Author: Chris Blanchet  :  Category: Maintenance & Repairs

The Automotive industry represents more than just vehicles, particularly for the domestic market. In fact, a larger percentage of the work force somehow touches this important industry than many may think, which explains why the troubled automakers were largely blamed for a big percentage of the job losses that spreads across through country between 2007 and 2009.

The reality is that automotive industry is extremely important to the domestic economy. While this does not necessarily make automotive shares a must-buy investment, it does make a fairly strong case for supporting domestic automotive manufacturers, whether purchasing a domestic brand (or a brand owned or co-owned by a domestic company) or supporting communities that are host to their operations. (However, a buy local approach neglects strong employers who might actually be foreign manufacturing or assembly plants that employ full towns or cities. In addition, buy local does not force domestic builders to become more competitive).

In the investment world, the automotive industry is normally something one might short (instead of taking a long position). But consider that given the right management team, many of these automotive companies (domestically and abroad) have the potential to generate tremendous amounts of cash. For example General Motors, largely believe to be the worst-off of the Big Three, has been able to repay Billions in foreign government aid within 18 months of receiving the aid in the first place. And this repayment happened years ahead of schedule.

If such cash were not used to repay government funding, what would the company have done? Of course, reducing debt is an important financial objective, particularly for automakers whose goal is to return to full capacity and profitability — eliminating debt allows them to retain more of their cash flow.

But ability to repay debt does not necessarily translate into future profitability. Most industry observers highlight the importance of generating foreign sales, particularly in emerging markets like Brazil, Russia, China and India. Unfortunately, while US automakers struggle among themselves (there are just 3 big automakers), the Chinese industry in contrast is extremely widespread, number nearly into the hundreds when it comes to different manufacturers. Does a company like GM stand a chance when facing such tight competition?

Of course GM is considered the largest automobile vendor in China, but if China were to close its doors on GM, what impact might that have on GM’s viability as a going concern? Clearly, the company would be crippled.

Looking at all domestic manufacturers including Ford and Chrysler, investors need to consider what type of progressive advancements are being made to enhance the end-consumer’s experience, whether financially in terms of preferred pricing, financing incentives, better driving experience, and so forth. Without these, these automakers do not adequately differentiate themselves from the competition.

And while a “buy local” approach, which completely makes sense when foreign manufacturers like Hyundai are reducing US workforce to bring manufacturing back to their home land, could help the Big 3 in the short-term, it does little to support the “local Hyundai plant,” and takes away from the fact that substandard automakers cause more economic trouble than high quality manufacturers.

In reality, investors should be extremely cautious when considering investments in automakers, particularly domestic automakers.

Automotive Advertising Agencies Focus on Consumers Vs Auto Dealers to Sell Cars Because Google Does

Author: Philip Zelinger  :  Category: Maintenance & Repairs

Consumers prefer to go to the Internet to shop for a vehicle to get information to make a buying decision without having to visit a dealership. Sometimes they turn to the World Wide Web vs. their local car row to avoid being pressured by a self serving car salesperson — real or imagined. Other times their objective may be to save gas and time before they jump into the real world where they may be pressured into making a premature buying decision based on emotion and limited information. Frankly, in many cases, they are right; can you say — spot delivery.

Job one for search engines, like Google, is to provide relevant information to their online customers to help them narrow down their list of vehicles of interest and answer associated questions like trade-in value, payment options and the many items that must be addressed before they can select — the — vehicle vs. — a — vehicle. Once those issues are resolved, they need to help their online shoppers find an auto dealer that can provide a vehicle that best satisfies those terms and conditions; in that order — vehicle first and dealer second. My point is that when Google first directs their customers to the most relevant source for their desired information it is not necessarily limited to a particular dealership. Today’s car shoppers are much better educated than yesterday’s. They know what questions they need to ask before they can make a buying decision so their online search words are more able to target vehicles that warrant their consideration rather than limiting their search to their local car dealerships. For better or worse, auto dealers can’t put that horse back in the barn!

The adversarial relationship between consumers and auto dealers that governed old world selling processes originated in the real world to help auto dealers control the shopping and negotiation process and they survived briefly on the virtual showrooms being built one on the Internet, but — today and tomorrow — not so much! Once auto dealer’s realized — or more correctly — once customers told auto dealers that they no longer controlled the access to the information that they needed to purchase a vehicle the dealers tried to control the information on the Internet; how is that working out for auto dealers!

Automotive advertising agencies first assumed that S.E.O. and S.E.M. was a way to put Google on the auto dealer’s side of the Internet Super Highway. If they placed the right search words, meta tags, URL names — and the various manipulations of the Google search algorithms that automotive advertising agencies have memorized as fast as Google changes them — then they could manipulate the search results to place their auto dealer clients as the most relevant source for the information that customers were searching for and earn the auto dealers a position on the car shoppers short list. Given the vertical priority placed by Google to position a listing on page one based on relevancy to their customers search words or phrases, that technique certainly has value. However, since customers are prioritizing finding a vehicle before a dealer and/or to answer related questions before they open negotiations on a specific vehicle at a particular auto dealer, auto dealers that base their online marketing efforts to accomplish that priority are positioning themselves mid-sales cycle and they may be a day late and a dollar short for a large portion of today’s and tomorrow’s shoppers/buyers.

Automotive advertising agencies have attempted to answer customer’s questions on their auto dealership’ websites in an attempt to earn them a top position on vehicle based searches. Their assumption is that the more information the better — as long as it is relevant — however, once at the auto dealer’s site the more accurate priority is “transparency!” More time on page, and more page visits used to be considered a good thing but today, once again — not so much! The easier and faster the online car shopper can find the specific information that they need to make a buying decision the better! Site designs are being simplified with more intuitive user interface and dedicated landing pages or linked micro sites to allow customers to limit the amount of “clicks” or wasted exposure to information that may be relevant to the dealer but not necessarily to the customer; at that time in their shopping cycle at least.

Once the shopper actually ventures onto an online showroom the plan is to keep them there by providing direct or linked access to anything that they need to move themselves further down the sales/buying funnel. The dealer may see these information resources as a conversion tool or a lead generator but if they lose track of the truth — that the customer is still in charge — they risk losing them with the click of a mouse. Sorry, but throwing their trade-in keys onto the roof won’t work in your virtual showrooms!

The solution is for auto dealers to listen and learn from their online customers before they presume to sell them anything! Human nature has survived on the World Wide Web and relationship based selling still has a strong influence on consumers. Today’s online shoppers are being directed by Google and the other search engines to social networking sites because the marketplace is a conversation and people are social animals. Auto dealers who want to attract customers with a message that they are the best source for information to serve the customer’s interest vs. their own are better served to have their customers make that case for them.

Next generation inventory based search portals — like ronsmap.com — accept an auto dealer’s inventory for free with the ability to push their vehicles into social media using their vBack application to Ask-A-Friend or Tell-A-Friend about the vehicle — and the dealer –that they are considering within their social networking communities of online friends. Google has already admitted that they are prioritizing real time social media to establish relevancy, and automotive advertising agencies already know that more vehicles on a site provide more relevancy to more online car shoppers. As a result, they have found that the way to attract more online customers to find their auto dealership as the place to go to get all of their questions answered will be the message that is carried along with their individual vehicles listed on this communal consumer-centric site; which is what the customers are looking for to begin developing their shortlist of dealers to do business with!

Customer friendly applications that distribute the information on an auto dealer’s individual website which have the secondary value of functioning as a conversion tool or lead generator are also key differentiators that quickly build branding value for an auto dealer’s virtual showroom and enhance their online reputation as the place to go to get customer’s questions answered vs. their being sold something. For example, GetAutoAppraise.Com is a next generation appraisal tool that provides credible third party trade-in values sourced through NADA with integrated inventory information that allows the customer to review the entire transaction more efficiently. Their trade-in appraisal form includes vehicle, price and payment information to and from both parties to the transaction in one easy transparent and customer friendly process.

Video platforms, like SiSTeR Technologies Video CarLot, is another transparent Google friendly application that converts pictures on an auto dealer’s website into interactive videos with human voice that are also pushed out onto the World Wide Web through their dedicated API to You Tube and soon to be announced applications that push their vShock platform onto social networking communities like Face Book. Their proprietary video platform is fully index able for the search engines and it provides relevant information to the customer from within the video as well as direct links through their vShock application that opens a dedicated micro site with similar vehicles chosen from the dealer’s inventory using algorithms and business rules custom designed by the dealer to improve the customers vehicle selection. This process is another example of a customer friendly information delivery system that will improve transparency for the customer once they find an online dealership which will also extend the auto dealers S.E.O..

The point is, the more information that an automotive advertising agency provides through their auto dealer client’s websites in the most relevant and transparent manner the better. However, auto dealers need to get online car shoppers to find and visit their virtual showrooms first, and since information is a key differentiator between them and their online competition — or according to Google and online shoppers, it should be – then the information alone won’t make it! Automotive advertising agencies must focus on consumers’ interests in order to best serve their auto dealer clients because Google does; and Google does it because their customers demand it!

FAQ About Automotive Air Filters

Author: Erika Ayala  :  Category: Maintenance & Repairs

The fact is the automotive air filter is one of the most important parts of an engine, but is also one of the most taken for granted also. Air filters actually act like an engine’s lungs, filtering the dust and dirt from the air to keep it from affecting the performance of the engine. Imagine an athlete having an asthma attack because of too much pollution. He won’t be able to perform very well. Likewise, if your auto filter has clogged up, your engine won’t be able to function well. As a matter of fact, a clogged up air-filter can cause more emissions and can make your car sluggish. That’s why it’s important to find out more about this part of your engine to keep it and your vehicle always running smoothly.
What is the connection of an automotive air filter and the engine’s fuel economy?

The connection is actually very simple. The harder your engine works to draw in air through the tubes and the air filter, more gas is wasted. It means that the more clogged your air-filter is, the more gas you waste.

How much horsepower can I expect to increase from my use of the replacement automotive air filter?

The horsepower increase may range from 1 to 4, depending on the type of vehicle you have, your air system restriction, and much more other factors.

How often do I need to clean the automotive filter?

The only time you need to clean your air filter is when you notice that there’s a decline in your engine performance. When this happens, it just means that your air filter is already too clogged up with dirt and dust and needs to be cleaned.

Do air filters come pre-oiled or must I be the one to oil them before I can use them?

Most automotive filters like Green Automotive are already pre-oiled and ready to use. However, there are also those which don’t come pre-oiled but with a separate kit for oiling. In any case, you will know when you purchase the air filter of your choice because there’s always a label for everything and the instructions are always easy to follow.

Automotive Accessories – Turning Clunker Into Classic

Author: Ken Geers  :  Category: Maintenance & Repairs

You made it past the clunker police, so now what. You can turn your clunker into classic with a few automotive accessories that will change your vehicle appearance without sending you to the poor house. Start with the automotive  interior, that’s where you spend your time and will get the most driving pleasure. Car mats should be the first thing to replace. If you are on a budget a nice universal set will freshen the interior just fine. For a little more money go with custom fit car mats. It is a nicer look and these mats are less likely to slide around.  Most suppliers are willing to send color samples for color verification, if you ask.

Seat covers are another automotive accessory that seems to really pay dividends. With the number of patterns and materials that are available, you are sure to find a seat cover to please. There are universal fit seat  covers available but they are generally not a good choice. A universal seat cover has play in it and is not as eye-catching as a custom fit seat cover.

For the automotive exterior, work on the paint finish to get your most bang for the buck. Most car paint finishes can use some help in the paint luster department. Over time the sun, acid rain, and road debris act to lessen the glow of your paint finish. A good auto paint sealant will change all that. Spend some time preparing the paint surface with a good nonabrasive rubbing compound then apply a true paint sealant. A wax or polish are short lived. A sealant will bond to the paint surface and create a paint luster that will last a long time.

Any of these three automotive accessories will add value to your vehicle. Do all three and, who knows, you could go from clunker to classic.

Hammers For Automotive Work

Author: Sean J Williams  :  Category: Maintenance & Repairs

Welcome back to our series on automotive tools for the new comer to automotive work and tools. In this article I’m briefly going to cover the basic theory of what kind of hammer to use in mechanical automotive work. Auto body work and hammer use is a much more complex topic, and often takes years of training to understand fully. Hammers are used in mechanical automotive work to “Persuade” a tight object to come loose. Do not use a hammer to pound something into complete submission.

You may be familiar with the much more common carpenter hammer. They can be useful for some forms of automotive work, but they are not the preferred hammer to use. By carpenter’s hammer, we are talking about a claw hammer with one end serving the purpose of removing nails. What you really want is a ball peen hammer. However, if you already have a claw hammer and don’t want to buy a replacement, the claw hammer will probably be okay for most jobs. Just make sure that it doesn’t have a loose head as claw hammers often develop. The shank of the hammer absolutely must be securely sunk into the head of the hammer or you run the risk of it dislodging and damaging you or your car. A flying claw hammer is not a great safety idea so please use caution when using a claw hammer to work on your car.

As is the rule with everything that requires force and automotive work, use forceful blows judiciously. Many of the car parts under your hood are made from cast aluminum that will crack and break if struck hard. Just be sure that you are aware of what you are hitting and how hard you hit it, or you could end up with a much larger repair than you intended.

Automotive Repair Manuals – Auto Mechanic Tips and Information

Author: Dennis Bandy  :  Category: Maintenance & Repairs

With today’s cars auto repair manuals are crucial for diagnosing and repairing vehicles in a timely manner. Some auto mechanics prefer paper books, others prefer to have a software program loaded onto their computer or to access information via the internet. However you prefer to access automotive repair information, this article includes some of the most popular companies that specialize in automotive repair information.

Mitchell 1 On Demand is owned by the Snap On corporation and has been a popular choice for automotive repair information for years. Many auto repair shops use Mitchel’s information including repair procedures, torque specifications, TSB’s (Technical Service Bulletins) and auto repair tips. Mitchell offers the DIY information available online, branded as eAutoRepair. The online repair information company, eAutoRepair offers an abreviated subscription for the DIY at a much lower cost than automotive repair shops pay. Each subscription covers only one vehicle, but this works out great for the DIY’er that needs to access automotive repair information and would like to get it with the convenience of the internet.

ALLData is another very popular choice for automotive professionals. As with Mitchell, repair information that was provided by the car manufacturers are made available to the auto technician or car owner. Diagrams, timing belt marks, trouble code information etc. And ALLData has now made their products available online for the DIYer as well at ALLData DIY.

There are many other good automotive repair manuals available from other companies as well, but these two are the ones that I’ve used the most over the years. The tips and information that these two companies provide are likely to make any DIY project a success.
