We are many times asked how to paint an existent laminate countertop, and if it is even possible. Yes, you may paint countertops, but you need to prepare the countertop surface cautiously beforehand with particular primer. Here’s how.

(1) Wash the countertop with some ammonia-based cleaner or a lot of warm ammonia diluted with water. Get it as clean as possible, removing all dirt and grime. When the surface is dry, you may wish to put strips of low-tack painter’s tape on any trim around the countertop.

(2) The next step is to prime the countertop surface with a bonding primer, this will make sure the paint will stick to a non-porous surface. Some good bonding primers are XIM 400, Sherwin-Williams PrepRite®, or Zinssers Bin. Follow the primer manufacturers instructions; plan on permitting the primer to set for regarding 24 hours before painting. The odor may be strong, so consider opening windows and closing the room off from the rest of the house when using these products.

(3) When the primer is dry, it’s time to paint your chosen new color paint to the existent laminate countertop. Nothing changes a kitchen’s look rather so much as countertop finishes, so make sure you’ve matched swatches to your existent colors – appliances, walls, flooring and all. If you use your laminate countertops to prepare feed directly on, use water based paint; the chemicals in oil based paints may leech into your food, which is not a good thing. Apply two to three thin layers of paint, letting them arid amid each coating. If you like, and are sentiment creative, you may stencil-paint a heap of patterned borders on your laminate countertops new base paint as well at this point.

(4) The final step is to seal the paint. Three coats of satin or high-gloss non-yellowing polyurethane will give you greatest or most complete or best possible durability. I prefer water-based sealer; it will not alter the aspect of your paint’s colors when it dries. Allow the sealer to arid 24 hrs. You might have to order take-out dinners for a couple of days, but it will be worth it when you see your extremely pleasing new painted laminate countertops in your kitchen.

5A perfect match!!
By Denise Whitlock
I wanted to replace my polished brass finished bathroom fixtures with up dated oil rubbed bronze, but no money to replace everything. I purchases several paints, non matched the finish of oil rubbed bronze. This paint, however, is a PERFECT match. I have finished fixtures, faucets, hinges, and even shower surround. It is recommended that you use a primer first, which I did. This can of paint really changed the look of my bathroom at a cost of less than $20.oo.

5An excelent oil-rubbed bronze finish
By D. Berry
Our company uses this as a finish for two of our product lines. Our customers love this finish. The product dries quickly to the touch, and is as hard-as-nails after a few days. If you get an aged bronze item, and rub it with an oiled rag, this is what it looks like! I strongly recommend this product.

2Not Rubbed Oil Bronze
By Audes
I am a big fan of Krylon – unfortunately it is not as easy to find as it once was. This color, however, is not rubbed oil bronze. It is much too dark and really borders on black! My lamps, curtain rods, bath fixtures, etc…are all rubbed oil bronze and after painting with this and putting them side by side – my painted objects are closer to a black color. I did not detect any “metallic” accent to it either. Very disappointing as now I have to try to find another paint and redo what I painted with this to try and match my other items more closely.
